The Designer : Self-Portrait
As you know, I love introducing you to designers I love. In today’s case, I feel especially strongly about this designer label. Emerging label Self-Portrait is having a moment, and you need to be in the know.
Launched in late 2013 by London-based and Malaysian-born Han Chong (formerly creative director at Three Floor), the line aims to fill in a gap in the market for mid-priced yet elegant cocktail and evening wear. It is loved by celebrities, yet accessible enough for the every day woman. In recent weeks, Self-Portrait has been spotted on multiple celebrities including Beyonce, Reese Witherspoon, Rachel McAdams, and Lucy Hale to name a few. Even with all the red carpet buzz, the price points remain relatively reasonable, particularly given the quality and attention to detail of the designs. Most dresses retail for less than $500.
Chong tends to favor very feminine frocks, often involving delicate lace and sheer elements. With his ladylike designs, he aims to make women feel special, without breaking the bank. Oh I so badly need to add a Self-Portrait piece to my closet! I’ve just been waiting for the right one — as a large busted gal, most of the designs just aren’t do-able for me. But I’ve been eyeing a few pieces that I could actually wear a bra with, ha ha!
