The Designer: Dodo Bar Or
Does that name ring a bell? You might remember me first talking about Dodo Bar Or back in March. I included the label in my group of emerging designers you needed to know this spring and summer. Well, I took my own advice and added this Dodo Bar Or maxi dress to my summer wardrobe.
I’m not the only one who is a fan of Dodo Bar Or. Just a few days ago, WhoWhatWear published an article about Dodo Bar Or titled, “The New French Brand Every It Girl Is Wearing This Summer.” And Elle UK declared “Everyone is Wearing Dodo Bar Or This Summer.”
Who is Dodo Bar Or? Israeli actress and fashion designer Dorit “Dodo” Bar Or is quite the style icon, having been voted fashion icon of the decade in her homeland. Her eponymous label focuses on traditional inspirations infused with a major dose of modern cool. Bar Or describes her designs as wearable, even a bit oversized, but still flattering. She delights in designing the details, often opting for tassels, eyelets, and embroidery.

Though the label was founded in 2009, the label has clearly hit its stride and caught fire this summer! The beachwear inspired pieces are made for summer getaways. Wasn’t my dress perfect for Key West? The relaxed, summery vibe of it seemed to compliment every charming, colorful corner of the delightful island.
In an interview with Vogue Paris, Bar Or described the Dodo Bar Or woman like this:
She is fearless. She knows who she is and can work whatever she wears. She could feel sexy even when she’s wearing sneakers and a baggy jumper.
