Safari Inspired

Funny story… You know that military trend that is so hot right now? You know, structured pieces, olive green, camo, khaki… I’m sure you’ve seen it all over the place just like I have. In fact, here are some of my favorite currently available military inspired pieces:

So, I wanted to feature that trend. Who doesn’t love some khaki and olive green for fall?

But a funny thing happened… As I started perusing this style, I came across this hat and this dress and these boots. Suddenly, my look morphed from military inspired to safari inspired. So, I hope you’ll indulge me as I take a slight diversion…

Safari style is all about ethnic inspired prints, animal prints, and khaki – all of which are of course are represented in my outfit. See exhibit A, exhibit B, and exhibit C. To glam it up some, I threw in some cat eye sunglasses, a unique scarf necklace, plus a standout accessory: a vintage Chanel cigarette case, which I used as an iPhone carrier. Isn’t it fabulous?

Really, those are the 4 tricks to nailing your safari chic look:

  1. Start with a globally influenced ethnic print.
  2. Incorporate an animal print.
  3. Include an earthy tone. (Khaki and olive green should be at the top of your list.)
  4. Add in some luxurious accessories to take the look from regular ol’ safari chic to urban glam safari chic.

Bonus tip: steps 1 through 3 should all incorporate one unifying tone.

Here are details on my look, plus a few other safari inspired pieces.

As for this dress, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you how great I think it is! For under $200, you get a beautifully crafted, tapestry inspired dress by Tory Burch. The details are really lovely in person. The tomboy fit makes it super comfortable. Plus, it will transition easily to fall with taller boots and layers.

One more comment: the Mignonne Gavigan silk chiffon scarf necklace I’m wearing is such a gorgeous piece. Frankly, I’m in love with all of her pieces! She has crafted such a unique jewelry line. To introduce Wear + Where + Well readers to her line, she is offering a 20% discount on everything with the code MGfallCC.

Tory Burch printed cotton short sleeve dress (here and here; vest version here, as noted in our guide to the top 15 long vests for fall) | Laurence Dacade Glenn fawn ankle boots (also love these Rag & Bone Harrow boots) | Prism cateye sunglasses | Eugenia Kim hat (available in other colors here, here, and here) | Mignonne Gavigan scarf necklace (use code MGfallCC for 20% off entire site) | OPI nail polish | Nars lipstickVintage Chanel cigarette case used as an IPhone pouch from The Vintage Contessa

Thanks, Sheri. If you don’t own any Rag & Bone booties, I suggest considering investing in some. They really are a staple. I’ve had a pair for years.

Wow Carrie this may be my favorite look to date — probably because that Tory Burch dress has been on my wishlist since last February and I’ve been craving pretty much any deer and fawn print accessories as I can find.

Gorgeous, luxurious and yet still with that signature Carrie playfulness.
