The Trend:
V-neck boyfriend sweaters : a trend that has been around for a year or so now. I embraced it last spring via a Rag & Bone white sweater with black accents (as seen here on Alessandra Ambrosio). I liked the trend so much that I’m trying it again this season with a Preen by Thornton Bregazzi sweater.
The top three reasons I like this look are as follows:
1. Boyfriend sweaters are extremely comfortable.
2. Boyfriend sweaters are casual, yet still very chic.
3. Boyfriend sweaters are great transitional pieces.
Perhaps most importantly, boyfriend sweaters keep me warm when I need it, even in these warm months. If you are going from the warm outdoors to the cold air-conditioned indoors, or if you are going from warm days to cooler nights, this is a great piece to deal with those varying conditions. I love to wear it over a t-shirt or tank top. When conditions are warm, one has the optionality to throw the sweater the shoulders or tie it around the waist. Very versatile!
One tip to keep in mind when wearing an oversized boyfriend sweater : balance out the proportions by wearing something slender on bottom like skinny jeans.
