The Trend : Flatform Sandals

Flatforms. A trend I sneered at for several seasons.

What is the purpose of this shoe, I wondered? If I want height, I’ll wear a heel. If I want flats, I’ll wear flats. Why oh why do we need a flatform? And didn’t these oddities die off in the 1990s? Well, for better or worse, the shoes are still here. And I have finally surrendered to the trend. And I actually like it!

After a few rounds of wearing these Tibi flatforms, here are my thoughts on the pros and cons of flatforms. On the positive side: These elevated flats are avant-garde and architectural. The structure of the shoe naturally lengthens the silhouette. Those who prefer flats to stiletto heels also might prefer the comfort of these as compared to heels. Plus, they just have a nice fashion forward look. On the flip side, some flatforms are rather rigid, not allowing the foot to bend naturally. This can make walking on uneven surfaces somewhat treacherous.

For me, the pros outweigh the cons. This cool look is something I’ll keep trying throughout the summer. I’m not a fan of flats typically, so this shoe is a good compromise for me. If you’re on the fence, maybe dip your toe in the water with an inexpensive, moderate height flatform option.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this trend. Is it something you might try this summer? Have you tried flatforms already? What are your opinions?

    Hi Carrie!
    Happy Monday 🙂
I love that Clover Canyon dress.

The flatforms are cute – not sure if I would wear them, but they look good on you.

    Have a good day,
    Sheri

      Thanks, Sheri!

It’s actually a jumpsuit, making it even more fun and relaxed.

Take a look at some of the platform options… they are some inexpensive options with a lower heel. Might be a fun alternative to the normal summer sandal!

Yes, cute jumpsuit. I was also referring to the dress you have on the “Shop my Look” — I think it is by the same brand as your jumpsuit. I might just have to check out your suggestions 🙂

Oh yes! A dress also by Clover Canyon in the same print. A big thumbs up from me.

I’m with you on not knowing the exact purpose of flatforms, but I do agree that they look very modern and stylish! I’m loving the outfit you have on, and that statement necklace is so gorgeous. Also, you’ve got such a lovely smile!

You look great! I’m not a fan of flatforms on myself, but I do like them on other people. Looks like you had a fun trip to Dallas!

I am so glad that we got to spend time together at the conference, such a fun-packed weekend!

Flatform, like it or not, is taking the world by a storm but just like those high-top wedge sneakers, it is not for everyone. I am in for platform but I never got those sneakers. 😀

    1. Carrie says:

      I am so glad too!

And I am with you… I never got into the high top wedge sneakers. Ha!
