Update on Baby Girl + Me
How far along am I now?
22+ weeks. Due 7.7.17
What’s going on?
We were in Aspen last week for a spring break trip, and then made a quick trip to Austin this weekend to visit B’s kids who live and go to school there. As for this week, I am very happy to be back in Houston! I need to catch up on work, catch up on some appointments, get in a regular routine, etc.
How am I feeling?
Well, to be frank, Aspen – which is normally a very happy place for me – didn’t set well with me. I assume it was the altitude. I was even more tired than usual and just very nauseous and uncomfortable. Plus, let’s be honest – it’s not a lot of fun to watch everyone else skiing, drinking, going out, and having fun while you’re not feeling well. It’s just not the ideal situation. Bleh.
As for this week, I am eager to get back to the doctor for another ultrasound! At our 20-week anatomy scan a few weeks ago, sweet girl was hiding her face. So, while that was a bummer, on the flip side, it was a good thing. That meant the doctor ordered a follow-up ultrasound to see her face more clearly. As I mentioned, I love when I get to see her! That’s the coolest feeling.
Now, on a related topic… For those of you who have been pregnant, when did you first feel the baby move? Reading online and talking to my doctor, I gather that sometime between 16 to 25 weeks is normal. Well, I wasn’t quite sure I had yet felt her move. Until Saturday night! As I laid in bed very still, I felt eight to ten little punches or kicks in a row. Whoa. That was crazy. Indeed, it brought me to tears.
One Other Thing
By the way, I would be remiss if I didn’t share this from today’s headlines… Major kudos to Chrissy Teigen for penning this essay for Glamour Magazine sharing her struggles with postpartum depression. Definitely take a minute to read the article. Trust me – it’s worth your time for a glimpse of insight into this struggle that affects so many new mothers.
Baby Clothes : What I’m Loving
Okay – now let’s get onto the superfluous, fun, girly part of all this… Shopping for baby clothes!
Now, this may surprise you, but I actually haven’t shopped much yet. I’m not quite sure why. I just haven’t reached that stage of preparation yet, I guess. Beyond this cute little personalized onesie and these adorable Aquazzura pom pom sneakers that I used for the baby announcement, I haven’t really bought much. Instead, I’ve been doing a lot of window shopping, so to speak.
Now, conversely, my sister and best friend have both been stockpiling clothes for baby girl – like this heart tutu sweater dress, this striped onesie, and this strawberry onesie.
Meanwhile, here’s a glimpse of what I’m loving — both the practical and impractical, splurges and saves…
- Designer baby shoes: Who knew this was a thing?? As a shoe lover, I am dying over the cuteness! I know, I know – not necessary, but sure fun to look at. How can you not love these Giuseppe Zanotti high tops and these Gucci sneakers? And Golden Goose baby sneakers?! I die.
- Speaking of designer duds, why is everything cuter when it’s smaller? From Stella McCartney to Kate Spade and Burberry, check out these mini versions of designer creations:
- On a more practical note, I am loving everything from the Oh Joy! baby clothing collection for Target. How cute, practical, and inexpensive are these pieces?
- In general, I’ve been impressed with the reasonable prices and cute designs. I do, however, find myself veering away from anything with words or cartoon characters or anything too “cutesy” like that. Here are a few things that caught my eye:
Any Advice?
So, do you have any advice when it comes to baby clothes? What do you need? What do you not need? Where do you like to shop?
Any secrets or tips and tricks to share with me? I sure would love to hear! Thanks so much. Really, I appreciate it a ton.
oh my gosh that little outfit is so stinking cute!!!
Right? Baby clothes are fun!
Can you send me the Etsy page for the onesie? The link in your article doesn’t seem to work.
Thanks
Claire
Hi Claire – sure – sorry about that. Not sure why it’s not working…
Here ya go: http://bit.ly/2mzig6C
HI Carrie,
Maternity Monday sounds like a great addition to Wear Where Well! My advice on the clothing is to buy onesies. You will need quite a few when they are little as you are changing them a lot 🙂
Enjoy window shopping!
Sheri
Thanks for chiming in, Sheri! That’s a good tip.
As I mentioned, my best friend (of 20+ years!) sent me that adorable Carter’s strawberry onesie. She is a pediatrician and mother, and she said those Carter’s onesies are some of her faves!
Baby clothes are so much fun to shop for! Some days I’d rather shop for the boys than for myself!
