Elle at One Month

Editor’s Note: Happy Monday! Today’s post is the first in a series of monthly updates that will be published during Elle’s first year. Keep on reading for the most heartfelt, sweetest letter from Carrie to her sweet baby girl. xo Julie

A Letter to My Daughter

My sweet Elle,

At one month old, you now weigh 7 pounds 7 ounces – up from 5 pounds 12 ounces at birth and a low weight of 5 pounds 4 ounces. Your current weight pushes you up from the second percentile to the sixth percentile. Good growing, girl! Speaking of…

At one month old, you are eating almost 100 ml of milk at each feeding – triple what you were consuming at birth just a month ago!

At one month old, you now are 20.5 inches long – a full 2.5 inches longer than when you were born. This puts you at the twentieth percentile. Hmmm might you be tall like your mommy?

At one month old, you still have blond hair and blue eyes – just like your dad. And you have the cutest wrinkly forehead at times – also like your dad! And you have the sweetest ladylike habits such as crossing your hands and feet. My favorite physical development is seeing glimpses of your sweet smile, even if the smiles aren’t the “real” thing yet.

At one month old, we’ve officially passed your due date. You arrived on June 12, 2017, even though your due date wasn’t until July 7, 2017. But I’m oh so glad we have had these extra days with you.

At one month old, you have had the pleasure of meeting so many family and friends. And might I add that the pleasure is theirs as well! Some of those people include all your grandparents (GranDan, Yaya Mindy, and Great Granny Rita), your Aunt Kelli, your big sister Claire, and so many special friends. And I can’t leave out your furry brothers Spy and Pablo.

At one month old, you have already been spotted at quite a few Houston hotspots! Lunch at La Griglia, Brasserie 19, Relish, and State of Grace. Coffee and pastries at Common Bond and Starbucks on the regular of course. Plus, at one month old, you enjoy our evening family walks down the block in your stroller. We like to get out of the house, don’t we?

At one month old, you’ve already had quite a few nicknames bestowed on you… Elle Belle (originated by your dad) is the most frequently used. But there are several more: angel baby (said by me), Ellie (used by your great granny), and Elle McFierceFace (said by me when you are crying / screaming; similar to supermodel Elle MacPherson’s name – get it?) – just to name a few.

At one month old, you have definitely taught me to live with less sleep than ever before. It’s a good thing that, at one month old, you also make me smile and laugh daily!

At one month old, you and I have come so far, sweet girl. When I was pregnant with you and endured a pretty rough pregnancy, I joked that you better be really cute and a super good baby. And indeed you are. And I am so thankful, because I sure had no clue what I was doing. But we keep learning and growing together day by day.

At one month old, undoubtedly, you have changed my life forever, sweet girl. I don’t know what I did to deserve you, but I am eternally grateful. You are the best surprise ever. You are my perfect little angel, and I love you so very much.
