Splurge vs. Save : Feminine Meets Edgy

Written by Julie Weinstein

Now, this has been a weird week, hasn’t it? You’d think with the holiday, and Wednesday being faux Monday that things would be easy breezy. Well, let’s just say Wednesday could have been one of my least productive days…ever. I’m not sure what it was, but I think my body was thrown off, and it felt like it was still the long weekend. Who knows? Either way, let’s just say I’m oh so happy that the weekend is here again!

But before we dive into it, what did you think of the first installment in our “Splurge vs. Save” series? We hope you enjoyed it! And today’s is comparing two “feminine meets edgy” looks (both of which I’d wear immediately, if not sooner). So, keep on reading…

Feminine Meets Edgy

If I had to describe my style (when not in gym clothes “athleisure”), I’d say it’s edgy-modern with a touch of neutral simplicity (the simplicity part being I tend to stick to black, white, and grey…with pops of color thrown in here and there). I’m not super feminine, in terms of my clothing, but the times I will wear, say florals or lace, is when paired with something a bit tougher, like leather or a graphic tee, for example. And below you’ll find two outfits that are equal parts feminine and edgy.

Pleated / Houndstooth / Checkered midi skirt :

The midi hem length is extremely on trend, and the patterns on both of these skirts are sophisticated and current. / Splurge – Gucci pleated houndstooth skirt, Save – Who What Wear button front skirt

Graphic tee :

Graphic rocker band / music tees are effortlessly cool. And the fun part about them is while, yes, you can wear them with distressed boyfriend jeans and it’s a great look, they can just as easily be worn with a skirt like you see above. It’s slightly unexpected and, again, seriously cool. / Splurge – Madeworn Elton John glitter tee, Save – KISS tee

Denim jacket :

A denim jacket is an essential item, I believe. It goes with everything, keeps you warm when you’re chilly, and there’s something slightly nostalgic about one. And, in the case of these outfits, I’d opt for a cropped version. / Splurge – AG cropped denim jacket, Save – H&M denim jacket

Pink bag :

I like the idea of a pink bag with these looks because it takes the feminine vibe up a notch, while still working with the entire ensemble. And both these styles are beautiful. / Splurge – Gucci bamboo handle tote bag, Save – Rebecca Minkoff small love leather crossbody bag

Statement floral necklace :

A statement necklace is a great item to have because it can completely transform a look. And with these outfits, I like how these floral ones are girly feeling atop the tees. The colors are fun, too, and I think both you would get a lot of use out of. / Splurge – Kate Spade flower statement necklace, Save – J.Crew Factory crystal collage necklace

Sunglasses :

Aviators are my favorite style of sunglasses. And I love the ombre and pink / purple effects of these. They also coordinate with the pink bags, which I think looks good. / Splurge – Tom Ford rose gold aviator sunglasses, Save – Quay Australia x Jasmine Indio aviator sunglasses

Mule loafers :

The mule loafer will never go out of style; it’s truly a classic (and comfortable, too!). I absolutely love them in gold because, while it can act as a neutral, it’s also high impact. / Splurge – Gucci loafer mule, Save – ASOS loafer mule

In Closing

And there you have it! While it’s great to splurge, it’s nice to save, too, of course. And, as you can see, there are some incredible options out there that look much more than they really are, and help you to achieve any look you’re going for. Let us know in the comments below what you’d like us to cover in future “Splurge vs. Save” installments. Happy Friday and check back tomorrow for the weekend edition!
