Embracing Fall’s Hottest Fashion Trends Now
Yes, I’m starting to talk fall fashion today. You might be thinking, “What? Fall fashion already? In the middle of August?” Well, it is totally reasonable to think that. In fact, we in Houston are in the midst of the most sweltering heat and humidity of the summer. So, you might think I’m crazy for talking about fall now!
However, as a fashion person, there’s always an urge to be a step ahead. There’s something satisfying about embracing the next trend or the next season before everyone else. Early adoption lends a feeling of Avant-garde to one’s look. When you adopt trends early, you look like more of a trend setter than just a trend follower.
Perhaps you are in the same boat as I… While the thermometer says summer, your fashion leanings are screaming fall. So, let’s talk about how you can start to incorporate two of fall’s hottest trends into your looks now!
Two Tips for Wearing Fall Trends in the Summer Heat
The secret to embracing fall trends early – even in the heat of August – is to do so with accessories.
Specifically, here are two tips for doing so:
1. Play with texture.
2. Play with color.
Remember: it’s all about the accessories. You don’t need to break out the heavy sweaters and overcoats yet. You can keep your clothing light in terms of fabric. For example, I stuck with this lightweight Equipment silk shirtdress, which is very summer friendly. But it appears completely fall appropriate because of the accessories I chose.
Keep reading for how exactly I highlighted two of fall’s hottest trends through my use of texture and color…
Velvet Boots
Mark my word… Velvet is the texture for fall. In fact, velvet will be the standout trend of the season. From clothing to accessories, you’ll be seeing it everywhere – particularly with footwear. Velvet boots were all over the fall 2016 runways back during fashion month in February. At that point, I immediately added it to my list of trends I’d want to adopt for the fall.
Before you think I’m crazy for fast forwarding to velvet boots already, you should know that several notable celebrity models have already been rocking the look. Gigi Hadid stepped out in the velvet boot trend way back in June! She wore these gorgeous Stuart Weitzman Bordeaux boots. More recently, Kendall Jenner was spotted wearing these fabulous blue velvet Gianvito Rossi ankle booties. By the way, in case you are interested, I found a great budget friendly alternative to Kendall’s blue velvet boots here.
When I spotted these exquisite Laurence Dacade embroidered velvet ankle boots (exclusive to Net-a-Porter), I do believe my heart may have skipped a beat. I have a soft spot for all of Laurence Dacade’s unique footwear designs, and these boots are no exception. Not only is the velvet on trend, but so is the block heel, as well as the embroidery.
Here, we’ve rounded up the best in velvet boots for fall. Note that we’ve included both designer and high street (i.e., lower priced) options.
The Color Wine
Last year, we called it marsala, since Pantone deemed marsala the 2015 color of the year. Though it’s now 2016, wine hues will continue to play an important role in fall wardrobes. The rich, warm tones play so well with the traditional tones of fall.
Though we’ll be seeing all sorts of sartorial selections in this color, I’ve especially noticed it is prominent in the handbag department. Thus, I decided to try this Chloe Georgia leather shoulder bag for fall. I love both the size and style, and I look forward to wearing it frequently.
Much as with the velvet boots above, we scoured the internet and found both high end and high street handbag options for you. Shop our favorites here:
