Always Be a First-Rate Version of Yourself

Wednesday Words of Wisdom : 01.31.18

Words of Wisdom

One of the best pieces of advice out there is “be yourself.” Two simple words that can actually be a lot tougher to achieve than it seems.

It can be tough because figuring out who exactly you are is quite a process. In fact, it’s one that never ends, no matter how “old and wise” you become.

But the more you work at learning about yourself the more you can really hone in on that person and being true to that person.

Until you truly know yourself, it can be easy to follow the path of someone else. It can be easy to follow what someone else does. But the easy path isn’t always the best path.

Always be a first-rate version of yourself instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.

- Judy Garland

I think the reason sometimes we, as humans, might act differently than who we truly are is because we’re afraid of what someone else might think or say. The opinions of other people end up outweighing what we think of ourself.

But what if we all strived to be who we truly are, no matter what? What if we all took on the mentality of, for lack of a better phrase, not giving a shit?

That’s not to say we shouldn’t care about others; that’s not the message at all. But more so about not caring what others might think about your thoughts and beliefs and interests.

Because if you’re following who you truly are, deep down to your core, there is no need for apologies and no need to think otherwise. Ever.

And, trust me, that first-rate version is the version this world wants. It’s the only version you should ever be.
