Did you all have a nice weekend? For my American friends, I hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend of relaxing and reflecting. With that in mind, let’s keep the red, white, and blue theme going today…
Embroidered Blouses and Dresses
For about a year now, we’ve been seeing embroidered blouses and dresses popping up everywhere, from high-end designers to high street fashion. Something about the artisanal embroidery evokes ideas of bohemian wanderlust, igniting the desire to travel to a land far away. The relaxed silhouettes and linen fabrics also make the look perfect for summer.
So, whether you have travels planned this summer or just want to feel like you’re on vacation, you should try this trend. Keep reading for more information on how the trend started and ways that you can incorporate it into your wardrobe…
The trend burst onto the scene in the spring of 2015 when leading Ukrainian designer Vita Kin showed her collection at Paris Fashion Week. Vita Kin took the traditional Ukrainian craft of artisanal embroidery (called vyshyvanka), combined it with luxe linen fabrics and couture-style craftsmanship, and an overnight sensation was born. Made by hand, one dress can take three weeks to make. Her cult following quickly immediately included the likes of editors like Anna Dello Russo, fashion insiders like Mira Duma, and style influencer’s like Man Repeller’s Leandre Medine.
The only problem? Vita Kin pieces were selling out immediately. Even now, finding them online is a struggle. I did spot a few pieces in-stock at MatchesFashion.com. (Side note: not surprisingly, these high-quality, unique pieces come with a hefty price tag.)

In my quest to find a similar option for myself this season (both in stock and at a bit more reasonable price point), I discovered New York based label MARCH11. MARCH11 also specializes in travel-inspired embroidered blouses and dresses. Through the use of changing color combinations and different embroidery designs, MARCH11 is setting out to prove that this look is a new classic, both beautiful and versatile.
While the price point is a bit more reasonable than Vita Kin, these tops and dresses are still extremely high quality. In fact, I was so impressed with this blouse in person, that I’m looking to add an additional piece to my wardrobe – perhaps a dress like this one. Embroidered with over 2,000 yards of thread, one dress can take up to two weeks to create. Making these pieces even more attractive is that, as of today, several of the pieces have gone on sale – including my top!
