Fall Fashion: Fun and Colorful

I know, I know… When fall comes around, fashion tends to veer more neutral. Something about nature’s colors of the season inspires our wardrobe palette. Don’t get me wrong – there’s certainly a place for that. The hues of nature are beautiful this time of year.

However, let this serve as a rallying cry for my fellow color lovers: Long live color – even in the fall season!

That’s right – fall is no time to be a shrinking violet. In fact, we should all keep experimenting with color and texture and pattern this season. To help us all in doing so, I’ve put together this fail-proof, easy-to-execute formula for a fun, colorful everyday fall outfit.

Just follow this simple equation, and the results are guaranteed to be a winning outfit!

Striped Sweater + Utility Jacket + Ripped Jeans + Velvet Booties = Fun Fall Fashion Formula

Now, let’s take a look at each part of the equation. While you, of course, can always my look exactly, we’ve rounded up other options for each element too!

Colorful Striped Sweater

First, I opted for this IRO striped sweater, which is so very soft and so easy to wear. (For your reference, I’m wearing a medium here, as I prefer my sweaters to be a bit looser and longer.) But there are other colorful striped sweaters I’ve been eyeing. So, let’s take a look at those:

Utility Jacket

Second, there are so many great utility jackets on the market these days. In fact, I pointed you to three of my favorites in Friday’s article about the color olive. For practical purposes though, I opted to purchase a vest style for now. In Houston, the weather doesn’t yet dictate a full jacket. But this vest sure makes a nice layering piece. Here, you’ll find a few military inspired cargo jackets and vests from which to choose:

Ripped Jeans

Next, consider the ripped jeans element of the equation. Recently, I stumbled upon this pair of very destroyed jeans – and I love them! Did you notice how the horizontal lines of the rips seem to mimic the stripes of the sweater? Of course, ripped jeans are everywhere these days, and here are a few of our favorites:

Velvet Booties 

Finally, polish the outfit off with the must-have trend of the season: velvet booties. As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve already worn this pair several times. I adore them, because they add a great pop of color and interesting texture to almost any outfit. Here are some other great booties:
