3 Holiday Simmer Pot Recipes

By Holly Wade

Everyone loves a good-smelling home, but it’s hard to achieve a scent throughout your entire home through just plug-ins and air fresheners. I have found that the only way to spread a scent throughout my whole home is through cooking, which is why simmer pots are my saving grace.

As we head into the holidays – and that means holiday parties! – these simmer pots are the perfect way to make your home smell like the holidays and keep the scent going all. day. long.

Each of these scents is perfect for fall and winter! Whether you’re making one for a party or just because, you’ll feel like you just walked into a candle store (but better) in your own home.

Apple Cinnamon Simmer Pot

This recipe is my personal favorite. It encompasses my favorite fall scents and is my go-to on a gloomy fall day.

Cut the orange and apple into slices with the peels on. Add to about 2 cups of water with 2 cinnamon sticks and 2 anise stars. Heat on low and simmer all day as desired. The water will evaporate, so add more as needed to keep pot simmering. Drain water and dispose of fruit and spices when finished.

Citrus Vanilla Simmer Pot

The nice thing about this simmer pot is that you can enjoy it year-round. The combination of citrus, rosemary and vanilla make it comforting and cozy.

Fill a pot with about 2 cups of water. Cut the lemon into slices and add it to the water along with 3 fresh rosemary sprigs, 1 bay leaf and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Heat on low and simmer all day as desired. The water will evaporate, so add more as needed to keep pot simmering. Drain water and dispose of fruit and herbs when finished.

Spiced Cranberry Simmer Pot

This simmer pot is my favorite for making my home smell like Christmas morning. Something about the combination of spices and cranberries make me think of Christmas and winter.

Cut the orange into 4-6 slices with the peel on. Fill a pot with about 2 cups of water, and add the orange slices, about 1 cup of fresh cranberries, 2 tablespoons of cloves and 2 anise stars. Heat on low and simmer all day as desired. The water will evaporate, so add more as needed to keep pot simmering. Drain water and dispose of fruit and spices when finished.

Any one of these simple simmer pot recipes will have your home smelling amazing all day long!
