Monday Memo

5 interesting tidbits of information to start your week

Monday Memo: 06.29.2020

Hi friends! Happy Monday!

I’m back with the second edition of the new Monday Memo, a new weekly column I started last week.

I felt the need to shake things up a bit. And this is my place to save and share the random things that catch my attention each week. These items might be fun and fluffy diversions. Or, they might be of a more serious nature. This week, in fact, features both.

Hopefully, this little listing succeeds in adding value of some sort to your week. Maybe you’ll learn, maybe you’ll smile, maybe you’ll shop, maybe you’ll think.

In any event, I hope you enjoy!

Without further ado, here are this week’s things you need to know…

5 Things to Know This Week

1 – 4th of July

Can you believe that the 4th of July is less than a week away?! A couple of things to consider for your patriotic celebrations:

The best red, white, and blue outfit ideas

The best red, white, and blue cocktail idea

Plus, I have one more idea coming your way tomorrow! Stay tuned…

2 – Opportunity Cost

Recently, Julia Berolzheimer (one of the OG fashion bloggers) shared that she is closing the chapter on her Girl Meets Glam Collection, the fashion line she launched (with a partner) a few years ago.

Influencer brands are nothing new. In fact, many influencers themselves see it as a pinnacle achievement to say that they’ve launched a branded line of products. And many have done so successfully.

However, from a business standpoint, one must consider the opportunity cost – something that is not thought about or talked about enough. Amber Venz Box brings up the notion in this article.

What is opportunity cost?

In dictionary terms, opportunity cost is the loss of potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen.

In simple terms, it’s this: You can’t have it all. Doing/choosing one thing often means missing out on another thing.

So, the simple lesson is this: count the costs. Just because something looks bright and shiny and exciting doesn’t mean it’s worth pursuing. Be sure to look at what you’d have to give up to pursue that new thing.

Just some food for thought. 🙂

3 – The Nat Note

A little something that brightens my Mondays: The Nat Note.

Houstonian Natalie – lawyer, mother, and weekly blogger – publishes The Nat Note weekly. She has a great knack for finding stylish items for the whole family and home tool.

I highly suggest either subscribing to her blog or signing up for her weekly newsletter. Each Nat Note is full of fun finds — a fun diversion each and every Monday.

Just a little something to brighten your Mondays. 🙂

4 – Ban.do Exposé – a cautionary tale

Back on the serious front, kudos to writer Stephanie McNeal for this piece written for BuzzFeed News exposing the racist, toxic work culture within Ban.do.

On Instagram, Ban.do Looked Like A Millennial Woman’s Paradise. In Reality, Employees Say They Were Miserable

My intention in sharing this article is not to go down the rabbit hole of dissecting the environment at Ban.do. Stephanie does a marvelous job of that herself.

Rather, I urge you to use this as a cautionary tale. In today’s day and age, there is no hiding! You must be a good person in business. There’s no way around it. Because the truth will likely and eventually be exposed.

5 – J.Crew on Sale

There are just so many great things at J.Crew right now – and everything is on sale! Everything (even new arrivals) is 40% off with code CHECKOUT. Sale items are an additional 60% off.

So, here is your chance to stock up on some summertime staples!

Here are some of my favorites…

In Closing

I’m wishing you a great short, holiday week!

Let me know what you thought about this Monday Memo.

And check back here tomorrow for another new post.

More color, please!

Carrie
