New Year’s Eve Sips + Styles
I know, I know. Christmas hasn’t even happened yet. But unless we want to be blindsided, we better start planning for New Year’s Eve! It’s a mere two weeks away from today. To help you with those New Year’s Eve plans, I’m thrilled to partner with my good friend Ashley of Sugar & Cloth to bring you New Year’s Eve outfit ideas and cocktail ideas. No matter what kind of party you’re hosting, we have some ideas for you.
The way that we approached this was pretty straightforward… I came up with three sets of looks appropriate for various New Year’s Eve parties. Then, Ashley used those fashion pieces as inspiration for her cocktail garnishes. I was so impressed by the creative way she translated the colors and patterns of the fashion into clever cocktail accessories!
I hope you are inspired by both the looks and the libations! You’ll find all the details of the outfits right here, while you can find out more about how to accessorize your cocktails on Sugar & Cloth.
Scenario 1 : New Year’s Eve Casual Gathering
Sometimes, low-key celebrations with friends are the best for New Year’s Eve. If your plans call for a casual get together at your home, keep it comfy but festive at the same time. Here are two ideas for doing so.
Ashley wore this relaxed fit silk shirt dress from Madewell. From a distance, the floral pattern looks a little bit like confetti, giving it the requisite festive touch. For my look, I was totally smitten by this Milly colorful beaded top from Buru and built the look around that. The top itself had all the holiday cheer needed, but I went one step further with some metallic pumps. I balanced that glitz out with some super comfortable boyfriend jeans, keeping the look casual chic.
Scenario 2 : New Year’s Eve Cocktail Party
If you’re opting for a more lively night of cocktails and celebrating, pull out all the stops to create a memorable New Year’s Eve look. Use color, texture, and pattern to your advantage.
For these looks, we centered our styles on these delightful sequin pieces from Kate Spade. The bold colors, the graphic stripes, and the sparkly sequins of this dress and this top scream fun! When else can you combine all three? Make the most of it for New Year’s!
Scenario 3 : New Year’s Eve Dressy Affair
Finally, if you find yourself with the fortune of an even fancier fete, here’s my key piece of advice: keep it classic with neutrals, but amp it up with some sparkle! Both Ashley and I did this with our looks.
Ashley wore this J.Crew gold pleated midi skirt with a classic yet fun black and white cashmere polka dot sweater. Meanwhile, I stuck with a little black dress as the base of my outfit. Then I piled on the glitz with this great metallic sequined blazer from Banana Republic, plus gold heels, plus a leopard print bag.
Did you notice how we kept the color palette simple to allow the metallics to shine? It definitely creates a more sophisticated look for the night.
Be sure to hop over to Sugar & Cloth to see how Ashley made all these amazing cocktail garnishes…
Which look is your favorite? Which cocktail accessory idea aught your eye the most? We would love to hear your thoughts!
What are you doing for New Year’s Eve? Mine are a little open right now, but I think it’ll be a fairly casual evening around home this year. Whatever your plans are, cheers to the new year!
Have a great day. Thanks for stopping by.

This was amazing!! All three are fabulous!! I love your bow heels and back dress in outfit 3, but I also love how you were able to create a comfortable look but adding some glam in outfit 1!! This year my boyfriend and I are heading downtown Vancouver for a big Party on the waterfront! So my outfit will need a warm coat and boots, but hopefully I can use your ideas with a pretty top for when we get to the VIP tent with Heaters , thank goodness hehe. Looks like you had a blast with this shoot! Loved seeing the sneak peaks on snap chat!! Have a great Thursday!! My last exam is today, then I get to go home! YAY!
