For the second year in a row, I was fortunate enough to attend the Ralph Lauren show. Can you think of a more iconic American designer? I surely cannot. Not only was I able to attend, but I was privileged to sit front row to take in the show in all its glory. Dreams do come true!
More details on the runway show coming soon…
The big question: what does one wear to America’s most iconic designer’s show?
I dreamed of and planned for a gorgeous, perfectly tailored Ralph Lauren spring dress in a classic silhouette. Granted, I knew I might have to throw a jacket over the top, and I’d be okay with that. It would be February after all. But, alas, the frigid, windy NYC conditions had much different plans for me. A jacket over a dress just wouldn’t cut it. It was time to bundle up!
So, I experimented. I decided to start with some Ralph Lauren black basics and layer on colorful, textured pieces I had brought to NYC with me.
Is this something I would wear every day? No. Is it my favorite look ever? No. Was it a fun look to wear? Yes!
And I think that is what dressing for fashion week is all about. Fashion week allows you the chance to push your own fashion envelope, to take some risks, to be daring. Keep in mind, all of this should be done while staying true to one’s personal style. But it should be done!
Fashion should be fun. So, make it fun! Don’t take yourself or your style too seriously.
