Wednesday Words of Wisdom
Beginnings can be scary. Frightening, in fact.
However, they can also be truly magical.
Whether it’s a new year, a new job, a new school, a new city, or a new relationship, it can be equal parts exciting and terrifying.
And that’s because the unknown can be terrifying.
It’s comfortable when you know what you’re getting yourself into. When you know where you’re headed and all the feelings associated with it, that’s a great feeling, of course.
But when you don’t know what to expect and you’re a bit like a deer in headlights, that’s when the anxiety can take over and when your thoughts can run wild.
However, it can help if you allow yourself to feel all the feelings; don’t ignore them. But give yourself an amount of time to feel those maybe not-so-ideal feelings, and then push them aside as best you can. Because the truth is we don’t have control over certain things, so it’s best to just buckle up and enjoy the ride and let go of the things that are out of your control.
One thing you can’t control is how another person might act or what they might say. Though, what you are in control of is how you respond and what you say. You are entirely in control of your actions and words, and that can be a pretty powerful thing if you let it.
Think of beginnings as fun and exciting. There might be rough patches, but simply breathe through them and know it’s temporary. Trust that you are exactly where you should be and that things will work out as they should.
Enjoy the magic.
Because new beginnings don’t last forever.
