Unique Shirting and Our Continued Love of Stripes

Shirts are definitely having a moment in the fashion world right now. No longer are we just seeing your standard button up shirt in a variety of colors and patterns. Rather, we’re seeing so many unique and interesting takes on shirting. From one shoulder to off the shoulder to maxi length to neck details, embellishments, and beyond, we are seeing all sorts of unique options! Indeed, it seems like it’s time to add some newness to your closet when it comes to your shirts.

While striped shirts have been around for ages, the new interpretation of classical blue and white stripes have really been catching our eye (and you already know how much we love colorful stripes). Typically, blue and white stripes take on a nautical feel, yet we’ve been seeing variations of this that look less summer on a sailboat and more fall in the city. Most of all, this classic combination has taken on quite an elevated, modern feel, and we can’t help but get on board with it.

What I’m Wearing

How fun is this Johanna Ortiz one shoulder ruffle shirt? As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it. if the top looks familiar, that’s because I wore it with pink pants as well. While it’s a statement piece for sure, it’s also incredibly versatile – as you would expect classically striped shirting to be.

In addition, I paired it with a pair of R13 boyfriend jeans (similar, less expensive style here), my favorite Gucci metallic loafers (shorter heel here and similar style here), and my Bao Bao Issey Miyake bag. Finally, I topped the look off with my beloved Sachin & Babi grape statement earrings. It was a perfect look for a sunny, unseasonably warm day in NYC.

As a side note, we photographed this look on the same trip when we were wandering around NYC scoping out colorful walls. Be sure to check out our NYC mural guide.

    Hi Carrie,
I love stripes as I find them very versatile. I really like the Gucci look-a-like loafers. Do you think pewter shoes are appropriate for the office? Wondering…I’m considering them.

    Thanks,
    Sheri

Hey Sheri – yes totally you could do that, especially if your outfit doesn’t have any other sparkle or bling. In other words, keep the rest more conservative in nature with the fabrics and colors.
