How to Try Fads and Trends in Fashion
Below you’ll find five of the best tips to take into consideration when adopting a fad or trend in fashion.
1. Don’t invest in fads and trends.
Due to the fact that trends are short lived in nature it is rather silly to invest in them. Unless of course you know you’ll love it forever and it’ll become a “classic” to you, do not break your bank account purchasing something that will go out of season within a few months. Spend wisely.
For example, as we chatted about earlier in the year, the western trend is big right now for fall and into winter. And there are many ways one can adopt this trend, and also many ways it can go from right to rodeo real fast. Carrie wanted to dabble in the trend, but she wasn’t sure if she was completely on board with it. So instead of buying a western inspired dress, for example, she opted for these booties. And instead of spending a pretty penny, she opted for an affordable option. It’s a perfect way to embrace a trend, especially one you might not be 100% into.
If the fad or trend sticks around for several seasons, and you’re still loving it, maybe you can consider upping your investment into said trend then.
2. Adopt the trend if, and only if, you feel good wearing it.
Plain and simple, not all trends are made for all body types. And just because it’s a so called “trend” doesn’t mean it’s a good one for you. Just because overalls might be in, for example, doesn’t mean overalls work on everyone. Don’t force it and don’t stress if it doesn’t work on you. Make sure you feel great in what you wear. Don’t feel pressured to buy something just because it’s “in.” It’s way more important to feel good and happy in the clothing you wear.
3. Start small.
If you’re questioning the trend, like Carrie was with the western trend, start small. That way, you can see if it’s something you’d like to incorporate more of into your wardrobe. And if you end up not wanting to, then it’s great you started small and didn’t spend too much. Try out a pair of shoes or accessories or jewelry before diving in completely. There are so many options out there at all price points, so you’ll have no trouble at all finding what you’re looking for.
4. Do your research.
With so many options out there and so many retailers selling various iterations of trends, it’s important to do some research before purchasing. Check all the different stores and websites to see the different ways the trend is being used. Compare prices, look around, and don’t impulse buy. Even if you’re not spending a ton of money, it’s still important to do a little research before clicking “add to cart.”
5. Have fun with it.
Again, trends are short lived, and they’re supposed to be fun. Don’t take them too seriously. Adopt the trend if you like it and if you don’t, then don’t. Don’t feel pressure about trends, and take them for what they are. Fashion should always be fun, especially when it comes to trendy pieces.
