DIY rainbow garland and mini color blocked trees.

Felt Christmas Decor

By Holly Wade

Who ever said Christmas décor had to be solely red and green?! I prefer a little more color in my Christmas décor, and these simple felt decorations have no shortage of color and texture! No matter your style, you can incorporate these simple felt Christmas decorations for a DIY rainbow “joy” wreath, 3D felt garland and mini color blocked trees.

DIY Rainbow 3D Felt Garland

Instructions

Step 1: Cut circles out of the felt, approximately 2-4 inches wide. Vary sizes if desired.

Step 2: Once all circles are cut, cut a line in each that extends from the edge to the middle.

Step 3: Insert the string into one of the cuts in a circle, and wrap the circle around and glue the top edge to the bottom section of the circle to give it a 3D cone-like shape.

Repeat with varying colors of felt, spacing out as desired. Note, you can still pull the pieces up and down to position. Then it’s ready to drape or hang!

Items Needed

  • String or embroidery floss
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

DIY Mini Color Blocked Trees

Mini Color Blocked Trees

Instructions

Step 1: For best results, first cut circle templates out of cardstock to reuse over and over. Cut 4-5 circles in descending sizes in order to make a tree shape. Note, I did this using basic household items like cups as a template.

Step 2: Use the paper stencils to cut about 8-10 large circles out of the colored felt that will be at the bottom of the tree.

Step 3: Cut another 6-8 slightly smaller circles out of the next color and repeat with each color in slightly small circles.

Step 4: Assemble with a small amount of hot glue between each layer.

Step 5: The layers will appear very choppy at first. Use the scissors (very sharp ones will work best) to make very small cuts and even the layers so that it appears like a more seamless tree shape. Remember, you can always cut more away, but you can’t put it back!

Step 6: Lastly, glue the pom pom to the very top as a “star!”
