Fashion Formula
Last summer, I started a small series called Fashion Formula where I shared with you some of my go-to combinations when I’m looking for an easy, fail-proof look. These are my formulaic solutions for those days with fashion questions. I’ve shared formulas for summer weekend casual, 4th of July festive look, and fall weekend casual.
I seem to use these simple formulas especially in the warmer months when, for me, my style seems to simplify and become less fussy with more of a focus on ease and comfort and practicality.
Summer Casual Formula
As the temperatures rise and we near the summer months, I can already tell today’s look is one I will be replicating plenty this summer…
This outfit was totally inspired by this awesome Kendra Scott gunmetal jewelry I found at Nordstrom, For some reason, this teal color and gunmetal combination had eluded my eyes before. But when I was browsing Nordstrom’s wide-array of jewelry, these pieces jumped off the screen at me! I love that I can turn to Nordstrom to find jewelry inspiration at any time of year for any occasion. Check out some of my favorite jewelry pieces from this collection here:
With this jewelry itself making this look pop, I kept the rest of the look quite simple. I squelched my natural instincts to inject more color and pattern in order to allow this edgy Kendra Scott gunmetal jewelry to take the spotlight. In fact, I was inspired by my sister Kelli who rocks neutrals (particularly black) like no one else.
So, here’s the formula:
Black Shift Dress + Denim Jacket + Sneakers + Statement Jewelry = Summer Casual Look
This was such an easy look to wear around town for a day of errands and such. I’ll definitely be wearing it tons this summer – and you can too! I’ve linked to several options for each element of the formula below – little black dress, denim jacket, sneakers, and of course the jewelry. There are affordable / inexpensive options for each.
Above all, add some fresh statement jewelry to your wardrobe this summer. It will definitely help elevate everyday basics that you already own.
