A Letter to Elle at Seven Months

This is the seventh in a series of monthly updates during Elle’s first year.

Elle at Seven Months

Dear sweet girl,

Where oh where did my baby go?

Indeed, at seven months old, you seem to have changed overnight. When I look at this month’s photos with the chair and balloon, I see a little girl, instead of a tiny baby now. I see a sweet mini human being sitting up on her own and radiating joy.

At seven months old, you are causing a mix of emotions in your mom. I am at once so proud of you for all you’re learning and doing and also so sad for how quickly you are changing. Don’t worry, though – the motherly pride trumps the sadness each and every day.

At seven months old, you are doing so many things! It seems that each day you are learning a new skill.

At seven months old (well, as of this week – so slightly after seven months old), you are fully crawling. Not that I’m biased, but I’m pretty sure watching you crawl is one of the cutest things I’ve ever witnessed. You are so proud of yourself – and rightfully so! You’ve been close to crawling for a while, but now you’ve finally put all the pieces together. You got it all working together now! The hands, the feet, the motion… Go, Elle, go!

At seven months old, you can even sit up on your own! Gasp. This one blew me away. You can go from your belly and push yourself up all the way to a seated position. Pretty darn impressive! In fact, because of that came another change…

At seven months old, you have now “graduated” in your crib. Yep, we had to move it down a notch after seeing you sit up in your crib on your own! Speaking of your crib…

At seven months old, you’ve developed the cutest quirk when you sleep. No matter where we place you in your crib, you find a way to move to one of the corners of the crib. You must like the secure feeling of sleeping right up next to the wall or gate of the crib. Consequently, you always wake up with a red spot on your bald head. Well, let’s give credit where credit is due…

At seven months old, you are getting some hair! I promise – you are! Some people don’t see it yet, but Mommy sure does. And it still looks blonde. Little by little, my sweet girl. You’ll get there.

At seven months old, you are now eating more and more foods, besides just your milk formula. And I love how you already are developing a diverse palette. You already like tamales, avocado and guacamole, black beans, refried beans, sweet potatoes, fruit smoothies, and more.

At seven months old, you love playing, taking a bath, singing songs, playing peek-a-boo, talking, and laughing. You play so well by yourself and with others, always so curious and inquisitive about your surroundings. You simply adore bath time! You are always game for getting in the water. As for songs, “You are My Sunshine” and “If You’re Happy and You Know It” are two of your current favorites. And peek-a-boo with Mommy guarantees laughs these days.

At seven months old, what takes the cake, though, is your attempts at talking. Hearing the sweet sounds of discovery, the shrieks of excitement, and everything in between as you venture to find your voice leaves me in awe. By the way, I swear I heard you say “baba mama” as I gave you your bottle this week! Keep it up, sweet girl.

At seven months old, you seem to be changing so rapidly, yet some things remain the same. Your sweet spirit. Your adorable smile. Your radiant joy. Your amazing ability to sleep. God bless you, sweet girl.

At seven months old, you are just the cutest thing ever. Seriously, I thank God for you each and every day. How did I get so lucky to have such a sweet girl? I pray that you always bring as much joy to the world as you do today.

At seven months old, truly, you are an angel – my angel. You are a gift from above. You are the love of my life. You are joy personified. You, my sweet Elle Belle, are my sunshine. And I will love you forever and always.

With all my heart,

Mommy
