Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Written by Hannah Lyons
Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! How lucky we are for the holiday to land on a Friday. I’m taking the day off with Ms. Bella. We’ll be wandering downtown Houston in search of some Irish shenanigans and maybe chasing the end of a rainbow? Rumor has it there’s some gold involved (ha!). Anyway, shall we start with some Saint Patty’s Day fun facts? I think so!
4 St. Patrick’s Day Fun Facts
- St. Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious observance that happens every March 17th to honor the day the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick, passed away.
- The shamrock is a distinctive symbol of the Irish holiday. The three petals that create the shamrock are supposed to bring good luck, as the #3 is Ireland’s “magic” number. The three petals also stand for the holy trinity.
- Apparently, the official color of Ireland is a light baby blue. However, with Ireland being prominently known for the green-colored landscape and usually labeled the Emerald Isle, it just so happend that St. Patrick’s Day celebrators adapted to the hue.
- Why do you have to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day you ask? There’s really no getting around it. It’s because the leprechaun will pinch you, of course! (Okay, I’m sorry that was cheesy…)
