Stripes on Stripes: Our Love For Stripes Continues
We’ve mentioned stripes plenty of times. And we’ll more than likely definitely be talking stripes many more times in the future. There’s a good reason for that! Quite simply, we LOVE stripes. We adore them. We wear them all the time. Stripes are versatile, stripes are classic, stripes are chic, and we go back to this favorite pattern of ours time and time (and time) again.
Most recently we discussed colorful stripes and unique shirting with stripes, blue and white in particular. Well, today it’s all about mixing stripes. Because what’s better than wearing one striped item? Wearing two or three! However, we wouldn’t advise just throwing together any old striped pieces in your closet.
3 Tips for Mixing Stripes
When it comes to mixing stripes, here are three helpful hints we try to keep in mind ourselves.
1. Select One Unifying Color
It’s important to find a common ground when it comes to mixing stripes. Pick that one unifying color that will be carried throughout your entire outfit, as it will help bring the whole look together.
2. Vary the Width for Visual Interest
Look for striped pieces in various widths. This helps bring an added interesting element to the overall look. For example, look for a pair of pants in a thin striped print and put it with a top with bold, thick stripes.
3. Play with Textures
When wearing stripes with stripes, it helps to find items in differing textures. This will take the look away from being one-dimensional, so if wearing a ribbed sweater, for example, a satin-twill skirt or pair of pants would look great with it.

What I’m Wearing
I chose this J.Crew Ribbed Wool Turtleneck (also available here), which is so comfy and cozy, and I paired it with my Sonia Rykiel Wide Leg Pants (currently on sale!). As you see, my look has a unifying color (navy), the stripes are slightly different widths, and the pieces are different textures. I added a few more pops of red in with my Gucci Small Quilted Shoulder Bag, my Thierry Lasry Sunglasses (they are older, but I love these 3 red styles: 1 / 2 / 3), NARS ‘Jungle Red’ Lipstick, Chanel ‘Rouge Puissant’ Nail Polish. Further, both my J.Crew Scarf and Manolo Blahnik plaid pumps (older, but similar plaid styles I love here and here) carry the red color throughout, plus add a festive element of plaid. And finally, I topped off the entire look with a warm J.Crew Beanie.
