Summertime Vibes at Hotel San Jose
How is the weather these days where you are? In Texas, it feels like we suddenly leaped from spring to summer. In the past week, temperatures have risen significantly. Plus, we have much higher (almost oppressive) humidity because of all the recent rain.
This shift in weather has me thinking of what I gravitate towards wearing on hot summer days. I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to be outside in warm weather, my focus turns completely to comfort. Forget the skinny jeans or skin-tight dresses. I want something easy and breezy! I look for something that meets these three criteria:
- Made with a breathable fabric : Cotton and linen are great choices for summer.
- Floats away from my body : I want as little constriction as possible! Fabric against skin just increases the chance sweatiness and discomfort.
- Is still chic and on-trend : As you know, the off-the-shoulder trend is all the rage and here to stay.
This dress meets all three of those standards. It has already proven to be a winning piece in my wardrobe, as I’ve worn it three times in the last month. Each occasion was an outdoor event in the warm weather – a day out and about in Austin (as depicted here during my recent stay at the Hotel San Jose), a day of tennis watching at the U.S. Clay Court Championships, and a day of browsing at the new River Oaks District, Houston’s new open-air shopping destination.
Fortunately, there are a plethora of dresses that fit within this category nicely this season. Keep scrolling to see the best off the shoulder dresses…

The Met Gala
Don’t forget – tonight is the annual Met Gala! What is the Met Gala, you ask? Hosted by none other than Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the gala is the annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. This one party funds the entire annual operating budget for the Costume Institute. The gala also signifies the grand opening of the institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
This year’s theme is dubbed “Manus x Machina” – fashion in an age of technology. It will be so interesting to see how people interpret this theme. For the first time ever, E! will be airing red carpet coverage of the event. For more details for how to follow all the action, check out this article from Refinery29.
I’ll be live snapping my thoughts on the red carpet looks (Snapchat username : wearwherewell). So be sure to follow along there so that we can chat about our favorite and not-so-favorite looks. It’s sure to be a feast for the eyes. The Met Gala is where fashion and art truly collide.

Unfortunatly, here in paris, with 12 degrees, off the shoulder dress or top is just irrelevant. But we will probably jump from winter to summer, one day …meanwhile, lovely selections …
Oh my! I’m sorry it’s still so cold in Paris. Until then, maybe this brings you some warm weather thoughts… 🙂
Great styling tips, I absolutely can’t get enough of this off the shoulder trend. This dress looks beautiful on you.

Hi Carrie,

Sheri
Hey Sheri – the good thing about investment pieces is that once you buy they last forever. I’ve had these for probably five years now…
Awesome! I’m glad you liked the snaps of the Met.
