Greenery: Your Guide to Rocking Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year

As you know, we LOVE color over in these parts. So, we’re always eager to find out what the Pantone Color of the Year is going to be. You might remember last December when the colors of this year were announced (Rose Quartz and Serenity) we brought you an article all about that beautiful duo, and continued to cover those colors all year long (here, here, and beyond). As you may have heard, the 2017 color has been announced…Greenery! And we’re already big fans. We are here to be your source for everything you need to know about incorporating Greenery in your life in the new year, so be sure to follow along.

According to Pantone, “A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.” We couldn’t agree more. With 2016 coming to a close, and 2017 upon us, we keep thinking about new beginnings, how we’re going to tackle 2017, and what some of our goals are going to be for the new year. So, this shade couldn’t be more perfect for the start of the new year and well beyond.

Greenery is a mix between a lime green and a pear green, as it certainly takes on a citrusy, zesty yellow-green vibe. Pantone also suggests that the “shade evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.”

“Most obviously, “environment” today refers to the “go-green” movement – which, while not a revolutionary idea in 2017, has reached a crescendo this year. Pantone has even partnered with Airbnb to create an experience in nature inspired by the color,” according to Forbes. As you can see, it’s a nod to a green lifestyle, too.

The color was picked as a symbol of reassurance that we all are seeking amid a tumultuous social and political environment. “Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

As Vogue stated, “The consensus seems to be the choice is more about hope.”

When a color is more than just a pretty hue, but also a symbolic element, it makes it even more special every time we go to get dressed in that shade.

How to Wear Greenery + Our Favorite Finds

Now, you might be wondering what to pair this beautiful, refreshing shade with. Well, for starters, it’s beautiful on its own, but if you’re wanting to put it with other colors, we recommend it with pastels, earthy tones, and the bold and bright. Truly, the color goes with pretty much anything, though, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone with it.

Furthermore, we’ve pulled together some of our favorite pieces in the shade Greenery that we think you’ll love! We truly cannot wait to fully embrace Pantone’s color of the year!
