Plaid Scarves
When Lyndsey, Rosie, and I were all together in Houston for our Sachin & Babi project, we figured we might as well double the fun with a second photo shoot. This theme was clearly decidedly more casual. We decided to focus on the winter classic: plaid scarves.
If you’ve been following along here all week, you might have sensed a theme… The theme: how to dress yourself for holiday occasions. We started with what to wear to a fancy festive fete. Then, we followed that up with modern ideas for how to dress in a classy way for cocktail parties. And now we are ending with the idea of how to dress for casual holiday gatherings.
Our not-so-secret weapon this season for injecting a jovial jolt into a usual outfit is the plaid scarf. The weight of a scarf makes it comfortably cozy for these cooler months, while the plaid pattern makes it perfect for casual holiday happenings. Keep in mind that these make great gifts, as they fit universally.
The patterns and colors of plaid are endless this season. So whether shopping for yourself or for others, keep the recipient’s particular personality in mind as you pinpoint the perfect plaid.
Our Top 25 Picks
Given that there are so many plaid options this season, we tried to do the ground work for you by narrowing the search, while still providing ample choices. So, here are our top 25 plaid scarf selections – starting at just $30. Happy shopping!

Oh Carrie this is the perfect post to brighten my day! I am a lover of scarfs, my go to accessory to keep me warm!! You three ladies are just stunning!! I love how you each have your own style and look so fabulous together! Your shoes are just amazing, your bag is magical and your distressed jeans are perfection! I love all the scarfs you linked! I can’t even choose one to look at first!! Thanks Carrie!!!
We had so much fun with this! We didn’t really even coordinate our outfits other than to say “plaid scarves”. It was fun to see everyone’s take on this. Thanks, Sydney!
Love that you and the scarf! Can you do a quick tutorial on how you tied that blanket scarf? Thanks! ?
Hi Justine! Sorry I missed this question earlier…
It’s so easy! With a square scarf, just gold it in half into a triangle (match up diagonal corners). Once you have the triangle, you just put the pointy part in front of you and the wrap the other two ends around your neck. Criss cross them in the back to secure. And then bring to the front.
Voila! 🙂
Such a fun post, Carrie.
Love all of the plaid. That OPI is my new favourite colour. I had my salon bring it in after seeing it on your blog. Your influence has spread to the interior of British Columbia 🙂
I am still doing the kid Christmas program gauntlet….piano recitals tomorrow, then some rest.
Oh I love to hear that you like the nail color! I do too, Sheri. It’s been my go to this season. Such a fun bright shade of red.
Gorgeous photos!!

Aw, Carrie, I love everything about this outfit! So many details, and all so delicate! Definitely need to wear plaid scarves more often – they make any attire just so much more cozy.
Thanks, Anastasia! Always a treat to hear from my favorite Russian fashionista. 🙂
You three are too cute! Love these looks – the plaid looks so cozy and seasonal. Also that wall is AMAZING!
