Letter from the Editor
Hello, September! We are happy to usher in a new month and new season around here. You’ll see that we’ve breathed fresh air into things around here. Sure – you’ll still see the colorful content you’ve come to expect from us. But we’ve also dreamed up some new ideas! In fact, we are happy to announce a new feature today…
September Theme
We are launching a new feature this month! Each month, we will be highlighting a color of the month and a word of the month.
The chosen color and word will both be organically woven and interspersed throughout our content during the month in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. That is, the incorporation of our color and word will sometimes be explicit, while other times it will be more subtle. But when you look back at the month, we hope you can see a common thread throughout.
Now, let’s get to the exciting part — introducing September’s theme:
For September, the color of the month is yellow, and the word of the month is happiness.
You might have guessed this color and this word from the mood board featured above. Those two concepts go hand in hand pretty well, right? What color exudes happiness more than yellow? In terms of happiness, the word kind of picked us, if you will. It seems to be a recurring theme with all of us now; we are all seeking and aiming to add more happiness to our lives in practical, tangible ways.
Coincidentally, I’m currently reading newly-released Joyful by Ingrid Fetell Lee. The subtitle of the book is this: the surprising power of ordinary things to create extraordinary happiness. And that’s what we hope to explore a little bit here this month. Truly, joy is all around us. Note: when this TED Talk first came out, I had about ten friends send me the link, because she talks about the power of color!
Side note: If you haven’t yet watched the author’s TED Talk on where joy hides and how to find it, stop what you’re doing and do so now! I promise – you won’t regret it. It will be time well spent.
Some of the articles that we are most looking forward to include the following:
- How to wear Gen Z yellow
- How to create a floral arrangement at home
- How to host an epic wine tasting night
- Why you should take a solo trip
- Why a digital detox is important
- A transparent look at how we make money
We hope you are as excited as we are about this new feature. It certainly is giving us direction and purpose as we plan for the month.
September Weekly Flow
Furthermore, if you’re anything like me, you like to know what to expect. Surprises are okay for birthdays and such. But when it comes to websites I visit regularly, I want to know what to expect each day. So, in addition to sharing what the monthly theme will be, I also wanted to be clear on what the weekly topic flow will be around here for September.
Monday: On Mondays, you can always expect to hear from me. It may be in the form of a letter from the editor, a business article, a Houston guide, or a large scale entertaining article.
Tuesday: On Tuesdays, you can always expect to learn something about fashion. Our Style Source will cover topics like how to wear our color of the month, tips for trying trends, designers we love, and ways to get more mileage out of items in your closet.
Wednesday: On Wednesdays, we will be talking about wholehearted living — “soft” topics, if you will. A spinoff on our Wednesday Words of Wisdom, this new column will be written by Julie each week and contain great food for thought.
Thursday: On Thursdays this month, we’ll be highlighting Helpful Happiness How-To’s. Have you ever read Gretchen Rubin’s Happiness Project or Happier at Home? Since reading these books years ago, I’ve always loved Gretchen’s tactical approach to happiness. Much in the same vein, we’ll have some fun doing projects that will bring more happiness into your every day life.
Friday: On Fridays, The Color Connection will link you up with all our favorite colorful finds from around the internet for the week! Consider this your weekly reading, if you wish. The best blog posts, the best articles, the best products, and much more. I get such a thrill from pulling this together throughout the week as I browse online.
So, there you have it! We are so thankful to have you on this More Color, Please! journey with us.
So excited for all of your upcoming content, friend!
That means so much! Thank you, Jenn! Sending you much sunshine and happiness 🙂
